Xela Pack Knows the Order of the R’s
XELA PACKS ARE FLAT BEFORE FILLING.
There’s a reason why “Reduce” is the first of the three R’s. From children’s books to the top environmental experts, the answer is the same: Reducing the amount of waste we produce is the best way to help the environment. At Xela Pack, we focus on all three R’s: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. But we understand the reason they are in that order, and, different than other companies, we are very strong in our commitment to the reduction of materials in all aspects of our business.
When comparing Xela Packs to plastic bottles and tubes of similar product capacity, there is a significant overall reduction in packaging materials. A 10ml plastic bottle with cap weighs 4.74 grams, while a 10ml Xela Pack weighs only 2.29 grams. That’s a 52% reduction in packaging materials by weight. A 30ml plastic bottle with cap weighs more than twice the weight of a 30ml Xela Pack. That translates to increased costs and consumption of fuel in addition to the use of approximately twice as much packaging material when using a plastic bottle or tube. The Xela Pack, on this basis alone, makes good business sense and good environmental sense.
100 EMPTY 30ML XELA PACKS VS. 100 EMPTY 30ML BOTTLES
But that’s not all. Some materials are worse for the environment than others, so it’s important to see what types of packaging materials we are using, and reducing. The Xela Pack is a paper/poly or paper/foil/poly laminate and uses approximately 93% less plastic than bottles and tubes of similar product capacity. That’s a huge reduction in plastic, and anyone who has taken the time to consider the weight of plastic use on our environment knows how important this is. A quick Google search of “plastic ocean” or “problems of plastic packaging” will find millions of articles documenting the mess that has been created for the earth and our environment by the overuse of plastic. Experts agree that the best way to halt this problem is to stop using so much plastic in the first place.
The Xela Pack also helps reduce space throughout the packaging process, because the Xela Pack is flat before filling. Empty Xela Packs require less than half the space of bottles and tubes of similar product capacity. This has a positive impact by reducing the overall use of pallets, energy and fuel before the filling process. And after filling, the Xela Pack still reduces space.
An order of 100,000 one-ounce bottles requires about 463 cartons to be shipped on 10 pallets. An order of 100,000 one-ounce Xela Packs will require only 400 of the same size cartons and can be shipped on 7 pallets rather than 10. That’s 63 less corrugated boxes, 3 less pallets, less shrink wrap and less fuel used in the process of loading and shipping those pallets as well.
I could go on about other ways we reduce consumption of materials at Xela Pack, but I think if you’ve made it this far in today’s blog, you probably get the picture.
