Check out their web site and on their blog you will find a post titled “The Running Boom – An InfoGraphic” that shares some really interesting statistics including the fact that last year, over one million runners FINISHED their long distance (5K or more) races. That surprising figure obviously does not include casual runners who don’t finish or people like me who never get started. What Makes This a Greener Shipping Option?

The outer shipping boxes are made of our Globe Guard® 100% recycled content, 32 ECT corrugated board. The insulating bio-based (NO EPS) foam is completely biodegradable, water soluble and even compostable.

More importantly, the box and foam inserts are completely reusable and since the foam inserts are sure to outlast the corrugated shipper, the inserts can be easily removed and inserted into a new Globe Guard or other corrugated box of the same dimensions.

Other sizes and Options?

Essentially we can make insulating bio foam inserts for any of our stock Globe Guard boxes. If you do not see the size you need on our box list, we can probably make it for you with a minimum, of course. Our plan is to add several new sizes to this cooler program so let us know what you need and use.

Cooler boxes can also be branded and custom printed but minimums do apply. Special water resistant, earth friendly coatings can also be added to the interior of the cooler for longer cooler life and moisture protection.

Other reusable products that are available on our store include our new Ice Brix cold packs to keep your products cold. In addition our Globe Guard Reusable box sealer is an easy way to keep a cooler closed (without tape) when it is used within departments or store locations and is not being shipped out.

Custom printed corrugated suggestions:

We cannot take credit for the above designs because while we typically provide structural design help, we are not graphic artists. However, we do enough custom printing that we can usually save our clients time and money by helping them avoid some common mistakes:

1. Mistakes of omission – ink is relatively inexpensive so once you decide to print your packaging, don’t forget to include your web site address and an eco-message. If you use a green box like a Globe Guard 100% recycled content box, let your customers know it.
2. Don’t forget the shipping label – it is usually at least 4” x 6” and tends to occupy a lot of valuable space, especially on small boxes. Work that into your layout and consider using a wraparound shipping label to seal your box closed at the same time.
3. Not all graphics translate well to corrugated board. Remember, looking at images on a monitor or as they are printed on fine white printing paper, is not the same as printing on corrugated board. Some fonts and designs can be a problem, as well as some reverse prints.
4. Colors tend to print darker on corrugated board, even on white corrugated but especially on dark corrugated. Also, all corrugated board, including that with high recycled content tends to vary a great deal in terms of color. Keep that in mind as you select your ink colors.
5. Save yourself potential problems and ink upcharges by using GCMI colors whenever possible. These are the colors readily available to the corrugated industry without minimums or additional charges. You can check them out at this industry site.

The GGRBS “makes every box a reusable box.”

It reduces corrugated waste by extending the life of any 32ECT or 200# test RSC style box when it is being repeatedly opened and resealed. Successful applications include sample room, testing situations, WIP (work in progress) applications and even just to create a neater, cleaner look on warehouse and storage shelves.

In addition to saving corrugated boxes, it can also reduce labor, eliminate the need for plastic tape and can help you avoid the use of expensive die cut corrugated or plastic reusable boxes.

Six different colors and two different types now available!

The standard product shown on our store is the recycled black version of the GGRBS. We are glad to also now have available a transparent purple that is made of recycled plastic as well. In addition to those two colors, the GGRBS is also available in green, red, yellow, and pink. Ideal for color coding inventory if necessary.

Please call or email us if you want one of these standard, but non-stock colors, because minimums and pricing may vary. However, in most situations these non-stock colors still ship within a week.

We’re now on our fourth Natural Products Expo West, and it has become the most successful of the trade shows where we exhibit. Each year we try to teach as many people as possible about the benefits of our packaging, and each year we make new friends and find new connections for business.

This year, Xela Pack is focusing on the kitchen and teaching people about all the ways we can help cut down on packaging material and waste. The kitchen alone holds so many opportunities for material reduction. When you consider the comparison between a one ounce Xela Pack and a one ounce plastic bottle, the environmental savings are surprising to those who don’t already know about us.

An average quality one ounce plastic bottle with cap weighs approximately 9.73 grams while a one ounce Xela Pack weighs only 3.853 grams. While that may not seem like a huge reduction when you think of one unit, the picture becomes clearer as you consider quantities often distributed by product companies. When looking at a marketing promotion of one million units a year, which is not uncommon for even medium level products, that results in 21,406 pounds of packaging material for the bottles alone, as compared to 8477 pounds of packaging material for the Xela Packs. That is 12,929 pounds less packaging material by weight. When you consider the Xela Pack is only about 25% plastic, that means that one million, one ounce, Xela Packs only use about 2119 pounds of plastic as opposed to over 20,000 pounds of plastic used in the plastic bottles. That’s a huge reduction in materials and especially plastic, and that’s just from one company doing one million Xela Packs instead of plastic bottles.

The benefits don’t stop there. The Xela Pack results in fewer gallons of bulk, fewer boxes for the samples, fewer pallets, fewer trucks and more. The comparisons really are staggering.
